I'm new to WordPress and wonder about all those plugins, being that for SEO, against spam, or whatever.

Which WordPress plugins are on your "must have" list?

The version I use is WordPress 2.8.6.

Thanks

Akismet is the one I have to have. The rest just seem like fluff to me.

Well, I find several useful. I always install

HeadSpace2
- lots of SEO functions, easy integration of Google Analytics that lets you exclude yourself from your stats (when logged in).

Redirection
- 301s and redirects, custom external links (as in example.com/go/destination) to make them trackable

Secure and Accessible PHP Contact Form

I sometimes install:

WP Greet Box
- "What would Seth Godin Do" functionality

Latest From Each Category
- Can create a bit of a thematic archive rather than the stupid date-based system.

Popularity Contest
- creates a "most popular" widget. I prefer to tweak this manually.

I think I should install but actually don't:
- Related Posts plugin
- Sticky post - so you can sticky posts at the top of category listings to avoid dupe content triggers.

I am using for the basics Askimet, Bad Behavior, Google XML Sitemaps,Add to Footer (Allows easy insertion of google analytic code in each page), Wordpress Database Backup, and WP Security Scan. I use other plugins for a variety of purposes but these are ones I would use no matter what I am using wordpress for. Hope that helps.
