One of our clients is thinking about moving away from their current webdesign company. The issue is that the website has just been built using a proprietary CMS system built by their current webdesign company.

They were keen to find out how easy it is to change CMS - they are happy with the design, it is not too big a website (100 pages or so) so re-entering the content wouldn't be an issue, they mostly care about the need for re-coding and how long that would take.

Would they be starting from scratch and therefore need to pay similar amounts of money as they did for this one (only live for 3 months) or is it quite common for bits of the template code to be 'reusable'.

If it's possible to write an export script for the old proprietary CMS that would work with a new preferred system that would be the easiest, but perhaps that's too optimistic. Otherwise it sounds like they may have to start from scratch with everything except the content.
