I'm try to create a small site for members of an organization to collaborate. I wanted to use alfresco for this purpose however I don't think I'll be able to install it on their web-host (bluehost). Is their another open source or free system similar to alfresco that provide the same basic features? Such as doc collaboration and a forum.

Thanks,
Alex

Hey Alex,

Sorry, I've only heard the name, but I've never tried Alfresco, so I don't know.

Perhaps you can list some requirements and we can go from there? Or look at CMSMatrix.org?

Ok here a few things I'd like it to be able to do.

1. Be password protected so only members can see the site.

2. Have a forum.

3. Have a dashboard type page that anoucments can be posted on.

One of the other things I liked about alfresco is that someone could upload a file then other users could submit comments or new version of the doc. It would be nice if I could find something else that has the same basic features. Thanks for your help.

Wow, I would say most CMS would do that. Certainly all the big ones. Definitely built into Drupal. I think you need a plugin with Joomla for the user access, but I could be wrong about that.

Have you had a look at CMSMatrix.org? (I think that's the URL)
