How to use wordpress as an article directory?

Are there any plugin can do that?

What functionality are you missing? As a default you can have

- multiple authors
- article tagging and various ways of displaying navigation by tag
- plugins can add sorting by popularity

I think it might be easier to start with your requirements, and then look for the software to do it with.

You can work only with pages as opposed to posts. You can turn off comments. WordPress can work as a website and not a blog at all.

Honestly, I've never used an article directory (not as a webmaster, a contributor or a content buyer), so I'm not sure what functionality you really need, but I don't think just using pages as your primary content type is going to get you where you want to be for an article directory with hundreds of authors and paid subscriptions (I'm assuming your question in that regard is for the same site you're asking about here?).

A few more details might help.

I would like to let other bloggers post articles on my blog.(Although I have not install a blog.)

And also, have author profile, author page, etc.

That can be achieved pretty easily with WP if that's all you want.

- create a custom home page (you probably want that) that has something other than the default chronological listing.
- like reprint says, use "pages" for the parts of the site not devoted to member-submitted articles.
- multi-author and author archives are built into WP
- look for "author" plugins to enhance author profiles
- WP 2.5 will have improved tagging so you as admin will be able to edit tags easier.
- get amember pro with the WP plugin if that question was for the same site.

Does WP itself doesn't have membersite plugin?

So I can create a home page for my WP blog?

Or I have to create additional html or php pages?

1. Amember has such a plugin and people recommend it highly and it gives you good granular permissions as far as I know. If that isn't right for you, get on Google and do some searching for "Wordpress membership site" and "Wordpress subscription site". Tell us what you find.

2. Yes, you can choose any "page" as your WP home page. Just poke around the admin interface and you'll find where to set this.

on the latest version of wordpress, you can find the option for setting any page as the frontpage by going to "settings" which is on the top right and then choosing "reading" on the menu. The very first option says "front page displays". switch it to a static page and choose it. you have to have created the page before you choose it obviously.
