Best CMS for image oriented website?

I run an image gallery of wallpapers and we deal in strictly large format wallpapers. I've been running it with old and very ancient static pages since the beginning, and i think it's time i went to something more modern.

I would like to ask your suggestions for PHP based content management software, both paid and opensource. What is out there? What's good? Which should i avoid?

I've started looking at Joomla, and so far it seems decent, but perhaps the best way to ask is to tell you what i require.

1. integrate the current user database from my forums into the main site so that users don't have to log in twice.
2. News and updates section that users can post comments to (like a blog).
3. Since my site is basically an image site, i would need an image gallery that will integrate with the CMS (content management system).
4. I would like for users to be able to post comments to the w allpapers also. Maybe not specifically to each image, but to the image set as a whole.
5. I would like to add a "My Garage" type section where users can upload their pictures and create their own profile of themselves and their cars and what mods they have.
6. Integrate ecommerce for future shopping sections.
7. turn my static image pages into php based and searchable pages. (i would probably have to leave the current static pages there so as not to mess up links already out there).

So.. any suggestions? This will probably be a custom job isn't it? any rough ideas on how much this will cost if i decide to shop it around?

The first item is probably the trickest one to do. A single log in for the cms and forum is not a problem but my guess is you need to find a cms that has some kind of intergration with the forum software you currenly use. Hopefully then you import you forum user data to the cms. I have never done anything like that so I am not quite sure how that will all work. So you might want to mention what forum software you currently use and that might help people with suggestions.

The rest of the items I can think of off the shelf modules for the cms that I use so I am sure most could accomadate those features also. The only thing is on item 7 you would probably have to set up a redirect from your current urls to the ones equivelant pages in the cms.

There are a number of photo website CMS available but none of them is matching all your requirements

Joomla will do most everything that you want with alittle work.

If your good with databases you should be able to integrate your current database. But it's diffenently not for a beginner. I know someone who could help you with it.

2 - 6 are no problem.

70 you may have to copy and paste the content into you php pages, but it can be done.

Joomla is the best system around if you have a little give and take. It would really simplify your sites maintenance once your set up.

I've replaced almost everything I had with Joomla.

Hey if your still looking for the answer

either Joomla or DotNetNuke will hook up with your existing database, just point to it when your setting up the new site.

You didn't say whether your using mysql or sql or access or what?

So losing your existing data won't be a problem.

No matter which one you go with, both have active forums and lots of the participants are willing to help.

Joomla has the best forum help

phpBB, Joomla and Gallery 2 can all use phpBB users.

Photopost intergrates with a wide range of forums. So you just need to find a CMS that has a bridge with your forum.
