Publishing articles and duplicate content

I have submitted articles to several article repository sites. Many of them have been published on other web sites. This has been a good way to get traffic.

What are the implications regarding duplicate content penalties? For example, I have an article on my site, and it also appears on several other sites. The pages are not identical. The article text is identical, but there are other elements on the pages that make the total content different. Will my site be penalized?

If it's as widely distributed as you say, and each html page is different, it's very unlikely.

The original usually doesn't get supplemental results but the others do. Search engines can tell who wrote it first. But then I wouldn't change your article after you first post it either or you might be considered the copier. I won't allow my articles to be posted anywhere for that reason.
