Yahoo Japan, Taobao To Link Online Shopping Sites [google.com]
Yahoo Japan Corp. and Taobao, China's largest online shopping Web site operator, said here on Monday that starting June 1, the two firms will provide links that let visitors to each site buy products displayed on the other.
The move will "create an online shopping site visited by 260 million (people), making it the world's largest by potential customers," Softbank Corp. President Masayoshi Son said at a news conference announcing the tie-up.

Under the tie-up, a Yahoo Japan section will be created on Taobao's shopping site, while the Japanese firm will offer a service allowing its customers to purchase items displayed on Taobao's site.
Yahoo Japan to make China foray [yomiuri.co.jp]
Under the tie-up, Yahoo Japan and Tao-bao will provide their customers with links to translated versions of each other's online shopping sites from June. Once launched, Yahoo Japan users will be able to choose from about 50 million products on Taobao, while their Chinese counterparts will have about 8 million items to choose from.
Yahoo Japan users will not gain access to Taobao's complete range of about 400 million products. This is because some items do not meet regulations under the nation's Pharmaceutical Affairs Law, and some goods are feared to be counterfeits, a Yahoo Japan official said.
Yet through Taobao, Yahoo Japan users will be able to buy Chinese products cheaper than within Japan.
