Alexa and NIS 2003

Does anyone know the IP address of Alexa?

Ever since installing the latest Norton Internet Security (2003) I can no longer get Alexa to load properly. I now always get the Alexa Couldn't load message.

When I click the 'click here' for help I get the help page but nothing there is of any use.

All I can imagine is that NIS 2003 is blocking something to do with Alexa so does anyone know which IP address and what processes Alexa runs?

hakre, you lost me with that!

I swear by Norton Internet Security, I have (touch wood) never had a virus etc etc. It is possibly that it is so good that it is stopping Alexa from working, the google toolbar still works without a glitch!

So perhaps it is all that spyware that Alexa uses!

So can I ask does anyone here have NIS 2003 and Alexa running at the same time on the same comp?

Yesterday I uninstalled then reinstalled Alexa and got it to work again but now it is not!

The Alexa toolbar makes the following calls:

cgi.alexa.com (209.237.237.90)
info.alexa.com (209.237.237.60)
client.alexa.com (209.237.237.50)

Well, I've never had a virus on my main boxes and I don't use a virus scanner at all - never have, never will, no need.

Ok, I caught one virus on a stock new install of 98 on a laptop and used ie/oe just to test something out - of course the first email I get was a ms oe exploit virus (sircam), grrr.

I did have a prob with alexa for a bit. I deinstalled/reinstalled and updated 98/ie to all the latest and it worked ok.

How do you stop the email viruses then Brett? I alone must get around 20 - 30 each day.

Anyway I seem to have fixed it so if anyone is interested here goes.

I uninstalled alexa, turned of NIS, then reinstalled Alexa, now to get Alexa to work I must clear the cache etc close all browser windows and turn off NIS open a new browser window and then turn NIS back on!

Quite a headache!

I should point out that the only thing I changed was uninstalling NIS 2002 and installing NIS 2003.

>stop email viruses

Don't use a microsoft email product and you are immune to 95-99% of email borne viruses right there. The other 1% are best dealt with common sense practices.

- Simply don't open unexpected attachements
- and never ever open a exe/bat/wsh or any other program/macro looking attachement that you weren't expecting and know who it's from.

Lastly, use Opera to view your html email, and you are again immune to 99.9% of the email based IE exploits.

I would just like to bring this back and ask if anyone else has installed Norton Internet Security 2003 and is having problems with Alexa loading properly?

I have now installed it on different machines with different levels of security and have the same prob on all of them.
