I'm getting heaps of hits from it?

Hi,

In the last couple of weeks i've been getting heaps of hits, according to my web stats, from forums on EzBoard.com. I dont understand why. There is not that much info on the subject of my website and the hits seem to be coming from totally unrelated forums like water world and welder fabricators?

This week alone around 18% of my hits are from there. I have no idea whats going on.

Has anyone got any idea why this would be the case.

I cant even find the exact forums by using the url in my web stats. It just comes up with a 404.

Could someone be posting the URL then the mods are removing the post, but not before a few people have clicked through?

I've seen the same type of thing and most of the time it comes from someone hot linking to an image on your site and using it in their sig file.

My experience is similar to Conard's - often such flurries of hits are from a stolen graphic. If you analyze your logs you should be able to see what is being requested - if a visitor session looks normal, i.e., they request a full page, and perhaps visit other pages, someone probably posted your URL in a message. You might not be able to find the referring url on their site because of a file naming convention that changes, for example, when new posts are added.

If you find the requests are for an image, though, someone probably stole a graphic from your site by linking directly to the image URL. Have some fun and (after renaming the image on your site) change that image into something large and obnoxious....

I'm not too good at reading my raw log files....i just use the online stats provided (Urchin 3). It seems that the hits are not requesting any pages going by the info the web stats provide. All hits from the board are not requesting a page so it is probably a stolen image. Now i just need to work out what image it is and change it.
