I am currently using webalizer and a free tracking program called 'extreme tracking' to get statistics for my sites.

I was wondering on everyone's opinion about the best tracking/logging wares available, both for free and for pay.

I would like to track every minute detail that may be possible and pertinent in order to better understand customers. Please give me your input on what has worked for you.

Each piece of software has it's strengths and weaknesses - I find that using a mixture will give a good overall picture.

There's a nice (long!) thread here [webmasterworld.com] which should give you an outline of most of the choices available.

At www.tucows.com you can find free trials of log analyzers and if you search for "log analyzer" at www.download.com, you will find a few more. Some of them (with my personal opinion):
Webtrends (Good, expensive)
Faststats (reasonably priced, fast, fair)
Surfstats (reasonably priced, good)
123 Log Analyzer (reasonably priced, fast, fair)
Analog (free, fast, powerful, bit difficult to set up)
You can look at the following but my choice would be one of the above.
eIQ Log Analyzer
Sawmill
10-Strike Log Analyzer
Summary
