Tracking Sales

We use bCentral's shopping cart, so whenever someone purchases, they do so from bCentral's servers, not ours.

I'm looking for a way to track referrers for people who made purchases.

On one of my other sites, my dropoff page is "thanks.html" and I just do a search of the raw log files for "thanks.html" and backtrack via the IP address and find out how the person found me.

But on the first site I referred to, since the drop off page isn't on our server, I don't have any way to know whether a person just left the site or whether they clicked on a link to go to the order page.

I was thinking on each "add to cart" link, I could place a redirect to the shopping cart code (which has a redirect to the other server too!) and then track those individual pages and backtrack, but that will be very time consuming.

Any simpler ideas? (Other than switching from bCentral; we like their service and want to stay with them)

Can you pass hidden field data to the shopping cart? I had a programmer write me a cookie that would store the referral URL for 7 days. When the buyer clicks on "Add to Cart", a JavaScript runs that reads the cookie data and passes it on to the hidden field during checkout. So, with your order details you can also see where you buyers come from.
