Information on ranking websites

Hi all, Does anyone know of where you might find a ranking of websites other than Alexa? I am just curious as to how my site ranks relative to competitors as well as other sites in my category. Also I am interested in my ranking over all:). I know there are many companies that you can pay for this information, but I am just more curious at this stage.

Are you talking about ranking in terms of traffic volume?

Yes. I was wanting to compare my traffic with other sites. Are there any top 100 lists by category or sites like that?
I know a few years back there used to be but I can't seem to find anymore these days.

If you do a google search for http (no quotes) it will give you a rough ranking from the top down.

i don't see how a search for http helps? how can you find your position and competitors within millions of web pages?

I guess I am looking for a website like Hitwise or Red Sheriff that nake their rankings available to the general public by category. I know that this is a big ask but in a way, Alexa do provide this through its ranking system so I was thinking that maybe others do.

And doing a Google search on http will give you a (rough) list of the top ranked sites according to Google - but not according to category. As you rightly pointed out it will not give you the particular ranking of your own site - but if you want to see how you do in the top 100 (or however far down thelist you have the patience to go) it may be of some assistance.

I do go through that process each month. I guess there must be no service offering this service any longer as all are now commercial except for Alexa.
