Since Google now influences Website Postioning on:
Yahoo
Aol
Netscape
IWon
among others...
An opportunity presents itself to calculate the approximate
traffic and search trends of the major search services.
What percentage of traffic actually comes from Google versus
Yahoo versus Aol versus Netscape etc.
Since we are dealing with a basic similarity in website/keyword positioning...
Also, what are the search norms of each...

Based on our calculations of the referer logs of about 100 varied and popular websites, it seems that Google sends the majority of search traffic about 50% to Yahoo's 40%
and about 8% Aol.
Also, the keyword queries on Google generally seem to combine both popular and rarely used search terms, as opposed to Yahoo which equals Google on very popular keywords but falls far behind on relatively rarely used terms. Aol is similar in trends and norms to Yahoo and IWon.

When Msn, Lycos, AllTheWeb and and Altavista, are factored in for websites that have similar keyword ranking positions on all the aforementioned search services -
It appears that:
Google
Yahoo
Altavista
Aol
Netscape/Alltheweb/Excite
IWon, Ask
rank in that order.
Alltheweb seems to attract complex search terms most frequently after Google.
However, Lycos ,Excite, Yahoo and Netscape seem similar in keword search trends.
What are your experiences with Search trends and referal popularity of the major searh services.
It would be interesting to accumulate statistics, referal logs, and observations from webmasters all over the world.

Put in your keywords and compare the search results.
Sometimes, if a popular website choses to make their Stats public, you can click and see how may keyword referrals are being received from various the search engines.

This does change the rankings for Websites that have used certain keywords in their "Meta Description", until Google reverts back to it's non-use.
Google is still acknowledging "Alt" Tags.
However, www2.google.com, & www3.google.com are displaying older cached versions of webpages then www.google.com for some keyword searches.

Dmoz has just updated their databases after over 2 months.
This will affect some keyword rankings for their recently added sites on Google and Google's directory.
