I've got a pretty serious attribution issues I'm running into with a client on GA4.
In particular it deals with self-referral attribution concerns and I'm struggling to diagnose the root cause.
I suspect it could be starting early on in a user's journey because I'm also seeing core ecommerce events being attributed to self-referrals when they shouldn't.
i.e. view_item, select_item, session_start etc
~30% of total revenue is being attributed to self-referral traffic over the last 30 days.
The odd thing is I set up a sterile GA4 account alongside the "live GA4 account" and I am not seeing the same issue. It's almost a 1:1 copy of the live GA4 account.
I've done some of the routine checks and added the domain as a referral exclusion, toggled off automatic collection of UA events and I've seen some improvements so far but the problem persists.
Has anyone else encountered anything similar?
