How does this work?

I received an email with a link from Goo Analytics saying I've been granted access to someone else's account. I click on the link and it just goes to the login page. If I enter my login info, it opens my account. If I enter the email address of the person who sent the email, it wants a password. I don't know his and I don't want to enter mine since it's not my account. So how do I actually get access?

granted access to someone else's account.

I assume this is someone you know that has done this to share the data?

Try this "Request access to Analytics" [support.google.com...]

Have you tried asking the person whose account it is?

Frankly it just sounds like phishing to me.

I read the reference page above and it says there is a Request Access link once I click the original link, but there isn't.

It isn't phishing. Long story, but I know the person who sent the link and don't want to contact her again. Of course, I've misplaced the email with the link, but now I'm thinking it went to one of my email addresses that is not attached to a Google account and that's why it didn't work.
