Greetings and Gidday from Downunder folks,

Hope you're all keeping cool and dry Upover.

This may have already been answered, but I can't find it, so apologies if it has, and please direct me there.

Do I need to update my web site tag from the UA tag to the GA4 tag to keep receiving data after they deprecate UA?

I've had a GA4 property for almost 2 years, connected to my UA property.

They are "connected" in my admin and property settings, and generating data.

And as far as I can tell from Google help, once the properties are "paired" there's no need to update the UA original tag.

But I'm finally installing a cookies and privacy compliance tag for everything, so figured may as well do this too, if it's needed.

Thanks in advance. and cheers

Hi,

I haven't found this the easiest migration, however, I think that this might answer your question.

OK, Thanks Engine.

Looks like I'm good (fingers crossed.)

Although it was so long ago, I can't remember which option I chose. But presumably it was the "create property" option, otherwise I would have updated or added the GA4 tag at the time.

Create property. If you see this option, this means that Analytics can reuse your existing Universal Analytics tagging for your GA4 property. Analytics will create a connected site tag between your Universal Analytics and GA4 properties. Select this option and skip to the Next steps with your new GA4 property section (below).

UA finally stopped reporting data last Tuesday 8/8/23, all the stats have flatlined, but GA4 property is chugging along. (Fingers crossed.)
Now all I have to do, is figure out how to make the GA4 home panel the default when I log in to my account.

Thanks and Cheers
