I was looking at doing a 10 year lookback at one of my websites and downloaded all the logs from my website.

I remember using one particular piece of software back in the day but it is no longer available. It is not AWStats either.

I have had Google Analytics on my site for over 10 years now but it logs it strange and does not respect sub domains.

When I worked as a webmaster I also used to import data into a MS Access database but it gets big quickly.

Hopefully something that does not choke on 10 years worth of data.

Sawmill, perhaps?

"Analog" maybe (2018): [webmasterworld.com...] that is free and was long recommended by keyplyr, is is in the discussion, not the first post though.

For those who have an interest in using Excel, see this (2014): [webmasterworld.com...]

i used to use something called: Fast Stats Analyser by mach5 ... i'm not sure if an up to date version is available.
it could process large locally stored log files really quickly - hence the name i guess!

when i used to use it i thought it was great.

In my experience, the ultimate open-source web analytics tool is GoAccess, runs on every major OS. You can use it via CLI or generate html reports with GUI.

Thanks for the recommendations, will have a look at them. I thought the GoAcess one was only for *nix systems for some reason.

Been using a home grown set of reports via Access I haven't thought to look for new stuff. Thanks for the heads up. Might find something a bit different. :)

48 hours later ... I did look. Some reporting is prettier than mine, but is not better. However, some of the packages would be very welcome to those new to data mining raw logs, so there is definitely a market out there ... and why re-invent the wheel?
