Hi,
In my analytics report I am seeing no visits to my homepage which use to be designated with a "/"
with no characters after the "/"
Now my main page seems to be example.com/example.com
Any ideas what might be wrong ?

In property settings i have the default url as
https://www.example.com

thanks

site content, all pages
/example.com 2,400 (visits)
/example2. 834
/example3 826

landing pages
/example.com 1312
/example2 603

Under "View Settings", "Default Page", you can define there, what the different forms of your home page are...

Like if www.example.com/ and www.example.com/index.html both are the home page, if you put in index.html, it would count traffic to either form as having been index.html.

Make sure nobody entered example.com in that box. :-)

View settings, default page is
example.com
That's the only form of default page there.
There is no www prefix and no other urls defined.
so i cannot undertand the big fall off in traffic to my root page "/"

If i enter www.example.com and save it,
it reverts back to the example.com with no www. prefix

If your default page is www.example.com/, then leave it blank. (This is your case)
If your default page is www.example.com/index.html, then enter "index.html".

It is asking your for the PAGE NAME, you are entering the DOMAIN NAME.

You are essentially telling Analytics to file traffic to "www.example.com/", as if it landed on your (imaginary) default page "/example.com" (which you entered incorrectly) as "www.example.com/example.com".

check you actual logs to determine how many hits you get either way

/
/index.html (or whatever your server default)

to see how traffic is hitting your site. Add those two together then check g to see what their reported number is ... if it is the same (or near the same) then this is a non-issue.

As for setting a default page, Leave it blank ... unless your default page is something OTHER than "index.html, index.php, default.html, etc)
