Is there a way to have a page receive hundreds of hits at one time? In other words, is there any method of creating a page that tries opening up the new page 100 times within the same pop up window or repeatedly attempts to open up a new page?

I'm participating in a voting poll. To vote, you have to click a specific link set up for you. In one day, someone has popped up with over 6,000 votes. I can only imagine that they are doing something to manipulate the number by setting a page to open hundreds of pop ups, or something else to access that link repeatedly. I'm trying to figure out how exactly how they are doing it.

If it is a CGI script for logging votes, you must include some 'fraud prevention' methods. (Fraud Protection on a voting script? - the world must be going mad!)

You can log the IP address and ban it from re-voting for a time (6 hours is good, 12 hours would be great). You can also try to store a cookie with an expiry time, don't allow re-voting to count if the cookie still exists.

Don't worry about how they did it - that's easy, worry about how you can stop it.

The thing is that the voting doesn't take place on a site I host. A site that I designed is involved. Someone has been spamming the voting system with votes for their site. For the most part, I want to figure out how I can duplicate that to even the playing field. Thats why I want to figure out how it is done.

DXL, there are certain webmasters who do have such a type of tool for their own use, for their own sites.

You'd need to get the same type of script, probably done custom; it's unlikely it would be easy to find something like that generally available.

The hits get the site pushed to the top of the list so it's more prominent, right?
