Alexa quietly retired the top 1 million sites list, confirming it's now gone in a tweet from Alexa Support.

The top 500 remains available.

Of course, many people found the data to be questionable, but, it's a good starting point for many.

Well that is a relief!

I don't do Alexa, and only hear about it from "best SEOs from South Asia" trying to spam contact forms(manualy) and whois detail's email address.

I know, I know.. Engine is GB.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Although looks like they bowed to pressure on Twitter and reinstated it a few hours ago.

Why haven't google done a top sites list? They have all the info from their chrome browsers, plus info from searches and websites clicked in their search, any top sites list by them would be far more accurate than Alexa who rely on a certain group (webmasters) who install the alexa toolbar to ascertain the numbers.

I never paid much attention to Alexa. Back when link exchange schemas were popular I would get requests mentioning Alexa ranking, but otherwise they always seemed to be irrelevant. It is highly pissible I missed the point.
