How do you tell where a surfer came from?

I have an IIS webserver. How can I tell if a hit came as a result of a Google search? The log only shows the IP address of the surfer. Is there some free software that allows this?

You prob need to extend your log files reporting. Off the top of my head, go to the web server properties, then click on something that will say (or similar) active log format, chage this to W3C Extended Log.

You should now get the referrer in your log files in the form:

2002-03-14 00:05:27 62.253.64.8 - 216.119.101.194 GET /page.asp Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+98;+Q312461) [london-eating.co.uk...] - [google.co.uk...]
