GA "tablet traffic" segment?

Seeing a "tablet traffic" segment now in GA's default advanced segments

Not sure when they launched it, but I just noticed today that one of the default "Advanced Segments" in GA now includes a "Tablet Traffic" segment, as seen in a screenshot I found here: [twitter.com...]

Seems very hard to find any info on this segment on the web.

Does anyone know how they are defining this segment?

I want to use this segment, while adding other parameters to it (e.g. match: "Device" is "tablet" AND "custom variable 1" is 0 AND "source" is "organic").

However, I don't know of a way to use default segments in conjunction with custom segments. Anyone know how to do that?

I've tried recreating their "tablet traffic" segment by creating my own "tablet segment" namely:

"mobile" is "yes" AND "resolution" matches regex "(1\d|[7-9])\d\d+x.*"

but the resultant visit count is off by several thousand, so GA must be defining tablets differently (and hopefully more exactly) than that.

I noticed that segment too... What bugs me is that the "Mobile Traffic" segment includes Tablets, so I created two other Advanced Segments: "Smartphone Traffic" and "Non-Mobile Traffic". I imagine that for the "Tablet Traffic" segment they filtered in mobile devices above a certain screen resolution...

What do you mean by "use default segments in conjunction with custom segments"? It sounds to me like what you want to do could be easier with custom reports...

Basically, what I'd like to be able to do is use one of the default GA segments (in this case, the "Tablet Trafic" segment) AND ALSO apply one of my custom segments to that default segment.

So I want to segment Tablet Traffic by whether that traffic was part of AB test group A or B (which I define in a custom variable and also a custom segment).

The easiest way to do this in my mind is create a new segment that says "device is Tablet" AND "custom variable 1 is true." But since Google isn't publicly defining how they are segmenting "Tablet traffic," I've got to just take my best guess, and then add the other custom segment parameters as "and" conditions during the custom segment creation process.

I've been able to approximate that using the approach outlined in my original post, but again, it doesn't match up exactly with the default Tablet segment.

It seems like in the old GA, you could copy default segments to a new custom segment, but it looks like one of the "improvements" in the new GA is getting rid of this default-segment-copying functionality. :-/
