Made the switch to PIWIK from GA "honestly i use both" a few week ago and it's great.

Real Time Visitor Data, Tracks more data then GA, and best of all It's Free "Open Source" and all the data stay with you.

And it's Self Hosted! Meaning you run it on your servers!

I know this might sound like an ad, but I am in no way affiliated with PIWIK.

It visitor log shows you "in realtime" each step a visitor takes on your site, what file they download, and even shows Outlink to leave your site"

I'm shocked i never heard of it before, until i started looking for Analytic Alternates.

It also have API for other cool stuff.

Def worth some research, check it out, check out the demo.

Funny you should say that. I recently reinstalled piwik. Had it for a while last year but it was making me insane* so I finally dumped it.

This time around I had a better sense of which pages to track. Keep it focused.

I love the outlinks. I wish there were more of them. Wouldn't it be fun if the only reason anyone ever left your site was to follow a link you gave them?

* I would have said "a few years ago" except that when I visited my site in Safari it thought I was Canadian. At the time this was a black mystery to me, but this time I read the fine print. That gives me a time frame. And then I installed the extra mod-- size, about the same as everything else put together-- that tells you where the visitor really comes from.

PIWIK is kind of addicting, watching traffic arrive from certain keywords, then watching where they go LOL. I need ignore it and just focus on aggregate data.

Yes, outlink are really an eye opener. I noticed that a lot of stuff "facebook like box, widgets, etc" were snatching a lot of my users away. replaced them with non clickable screen shots.

The GEO-IP plugin should be standard, and the file size is large "25mb", but there is a Apache Mod you can add that can speed things up a bit, i also use the mod for OpenX ad server for location targeting.
