Bizzare page view spike

Where is it coming from?

This month, I've had massive page view increases. The average number of page views is about 3000-6000 per day. On three days this month, that has spiked up to 21,000, 34,000 and 81,000 page views!

I've got Webalizer, AwStats, Google Analytics and phpAdsNew installed. Analytics is only on the front page, not user accounts, so it's not really that useful. According to Webalizer and AwStats, the average number of unique visitors has stayed pretty much the same. And the banner management program also says that the average number of page views stayed the same.

The first part of my question is what is causing this? I think I can answer that by saying some sort of script/robot, as it's not loading the banners.

My second question is, with those stats programs, how can I check what IP address these requests are coming from?

I can't really understand why someone would want to do this, as it's not like I have masses of really useful information. Most of the info on the website is photo=based, and it's not even very targetted. Very strange. It's just annoying though, as it's using my bandwidth!

Ok, just had another thought- users could be posting links on a high traffic site directly to photos on my site, which would explain why the banner ads aren't getting viewed.

Will look into blocking that with .htaccess.

Does anyone know how I can definitively check whether people are leeching my bandwidth, with the stats packages that I have installed?
