What are the best ways to track phone calls in Google Analytics

I want to be able to track incoming phone calls and determine whether they came from search, direct, ppc, banner advertising etc...
What's the best way to do this? Any good third party services?

There are a number of third party services that can do this to a greater or lesser extent but it is also possible to set up methods of tracking calls and their sources yourself. An excellent article from a couple of years ago is on this subject at Search Engine Land [searchengineland.com].
Hopefully this will be helpful as you can use some of the suggested methods with GA.

Very cool, thank you! This service uses unique dynamic phone numbers based on referrer source. [freshegg.com...]
Having a code underneath the number is interesting. maybe have your phone system request it as opposed to someone trained to ask? that might be annoying to customers.
Having unique numbers might also be annoying, if someone decides to use that number repeatedly and just assume that number is your main number. it could become a "dirty number"
