In some of the analytics reports, google shows up as "referring site".
Why is this? anybody knows?
thanks!

I checked and in a corresponding raw log entry, the query string is stripped from the referrer. Most likely this is some privacy/counter-tracking software or plugin removing the data.
We getting a noticeable amount of these as well.

I think if they're using the https version of google the referrer info is stripped. Image search also seems to show up as a referring site instead of a search engine most of the time.

I would filter out the organic and ppc google traffic and keep one unfilterered GAnalytics profile for your own data mining needs. Raw logs aren't good at tracking the sources of data like what GA does for you or GA with GAdwords

We're seeing a lot of uptick in traffic from the https version of Google: with a corresponding loss of referrer data. This means no q=query string, no cd=link position, no hl=user language, etc.
