I'm guessing this topic repeats from time to time ;) but anyone have any recommendations to track users?

Something that tracks refferers and monitors use of the site..

able to analyse PPC banners from other sites.

Stores IP and is searchable over various search strings etc ...

I'm guessing a decent package already exists but which are your recommendations from experience ..

Well it's a Linux, Apache server with PHP, Perl, Python..

what do you need to know? what do you use and why, would be good ..

Hello, I work for an internet advertising portal that requires an independant detailed site survey audit. I have contacted Neilson's Net-Ratings, Comscore, Omniture and Coremetrics. Does anyone have any opinions of these companies, including depth and quality of service and pricing, or could refer me to another company in this field.

Python! Man I love Python. Do you use it to serve up any of your content? Or is your content coming from .html files?

If you are using Python to serve up html pages dymanically then it will be realy simple to do.

We are going thru a vendor selection process right now. We are looking at all of above three.

With Apache, first thing I'd set up is to load mod_usertrack, enable session cookies and then modify your log file format in order to capture the session id at the end of each line in the log - I feel that is the easiest and most complete way to get the best information for what ever log analysis tools you are using.

Just so you know - all webmasterworld forums have the really obvious questions answered in the forum charter, or - in this case - in the library [webmasterworld.com]

Anyone dropping tracking package names outside of that thread tends to get nuked more often than not, otherwise the forums turn into advertising blogs - which Webmasterworld will never be. Just look at the variety already plugged in this thread so far. Imagine if the GOOD ones were in here too ;) (Just kidding)

Not sure what Apache and Python have to do with tracking systems though!
