question about Google search operator

Using "site:mysite.com" to check one site's indexed page number in Google database is kind of inaccurate.But when i check the index number of my site by doing so, I got a number:1350, and when i search"mysite site:mysite.com", I got another number:19,600.

It's a really huge difference, now i wonder if mysite's indexed number 1350 or19600?

Is there anyone can tell me? Thanks in advance :)

I don't think the site:mysite.com search will give you all the pages in your site, probably just the best ranking ones.

For my site is shows 383 pages with both searches. However when I add a keyword that isn't in the domain name, I get 3,460 results. As my site has a lot more pages than that that Google has visited, the greater number is closer to what is indexed.
