Hi there, Everyone:

My bounce rate is 70% for the most popular page on my site, even though the keywords that people use the most to find my site are the EXACT keywords I am targeting.

Example:

My page is about Widget Statues. It is an ecommerce site / page with about 14 photos of different widget statues that link to the individual detail page for each widget statue.

There is about two paragraphs of text ABOVE the first photos of the Widget Statues, and then there is about three or four paragraphs of text near the bottom of the page (after the photos) that is related to widget statues.

The number one keyword people use to land on that page is Widget Statues, yet the Bounce rate is 70%

When people land on that page, the left hand navigation has related links such as Wood Widget Statues, Stone Widget Statues, Metal Widget Statues, Resin Widget Statues. When i use the Click Overlay function in google, the click through rate is bad (less than half a percent for those links).

The first photo / product detail link has only a 3.5% click through rate, while the subsequent photos have lower CTRs

How do I reduce that bounce rate?

(Sorry if this is a really general question - I am desperate and don't even know where to start looking.)

If you could take a look at my site, please PM me and I will send you a link to the page in question.

Thanks in advance.

Hi i am also new with analytics but have been reading up alot on it lately. I also experience high bounce rates, the reasons stated in the Google Faq for analytics are:

1. Event tracking on Actions - have you installed Event tracking lately on all your object functions, to track how many people used a particular button or anything that usually skews the tracking, as it's only called out once therefore increasing your bounce rates incredibly.

2. Your site loading is very slow ?

3. Site layout ? have you changed it to something eyesore ?

Usually is number 1 & 2, from my experience.

my 2cents.

Thanks for the responses!

I am not sure what that is exactly, so maybe you can point me in the right direction?

There aren't any real buttons on that particular page - I think it is all just links 9at the bottom might be an email signup that isn't tracked, but I haven't seen a lot of email sign ups lately, so I doubt that is what they are doing).

Otherwise it is all links to other pages.

It's a little slower than most if you go by the data in WMC, but google says that data is not to be trusted, so I don't know about that.

Possibly it is part 3: I don't have a bunch of popups or any adsense or anything, but my design does look, ummm... dated...
