Urchin - how to see unique visits

damn I got this tool for 2 years and never known how to see the unique visits per day, now I look at sessions, where it says 80.000 a day, but how can I see unique visits.

Just guessing, but I think Urchin doesnt do unique visits, only sessions - unless you have cookies and/or UTM properly configured. Uniques is a difficult metric to measure properly.

Yeah, UTM will provide you with a fairly accurate unique and repeat count. Problem is ... your log file will be huge. We had to turn it off on several large sites as it got out of hand -- 2GB per day and was taking a toll on the server.

Urchin does not drill down to each visit. If you need that level of detail, you will need to move away from log files.

The best bet for more accurate reporting is going with a tagging meathod.

You need the UTM installed for Urchin to report uniques. With 80,000 sessions per day, I imagine that it will make your log files huge.

Have you used any other products or services that better suited your needs, compared to Hitwise?

UTM does generate huge log files, but disk space is cheap these days. You lose a huge amount of useful information if you don't use it.

For one site, we've recently started using Google Analytics (formerly Urchin's ASP version), which gives much, much better stats. Unfortunately, it can sometimes slow down page loading, so we've been careful about using it on more highly trafficked sites.
