monitoring site downtime

recomendations?

does anyone have any sites they recommend for monitoring site downtime? and sends SMS messages to mobiles when a site goes down.... i dont want anything that hits the site too often - just about every 10/15 mins etc...
any sites in the UK would be better too as the SMS service is needed...

ade, youre asking for alot, almost one task a full time tech could do for you with their oodles of wisdom ;)

Maybe if you subscribed to the likes of Internet Seer, and when things go wrong and they email you, so have some sort of mechanism that forwards it to your mobile

sounds all a bit fancy though, is it a big site?

I think the paid version of a freebie site monitoring service I am using might give you SMS messages as an option. The only trouble is I can't for the life of me remember its name. They do send me weekly stats and when the next email arrives I will sticky you.

thanks all, i've been with internetseer before but they were unable to sms me over here in the uk...
i've just signed up for a different one based in the netherlands and will see if they work ok...

re: size of our site... not huge and only around 2k unique visitors a day but the sales are v.high

I know lycos do SMS, perhaps you could get an email address with them and figure a way to forward it to your SMS account? :)

i signed up for that new account this morning and they cant get my SMS # working in their sys !lol! so looks like i'll have to try it like you say with excite :)
