Wild Variation in Compete.com Data

Jan/10 to Feb/10 compete.com data seems hard to believe

I've been promoting a new Website since Dec/09 and have been monitoring a number of different metrics facilities - Google Analytics, AWStats, Wordpress Stats, and Compete.com.

The fact that there's no consistency between various different reporting facilities is not the issue (I understand that there are many factors to come to bear on this).

The fact that Compete.com stats showed both a 10-fold increase in total visits to the site in Feb/10 over Jan/10 and a 10-fold decrease in uniques over the same period is the issue I am curious about.

The numbers just do not make sense to me at all.

While I suppose it's possible that 10 times fewer people visited 10 times more (virtually no efforts on the site, incidentally, in Feb/10 because I live in Vancouver and there was this little thing in town called the Olympics), I just find it hard to believe.

I mean, the same number of people visiting 10 times more often would be hard to believe, but this seems off.

Am I missing something here?

Cheers

Compte.com data is a compete guess and should be taken as such. Same as alexa.com it is all a guess and can not be taken serious or truth.

Your data is what really matters anyway, and if your looking on selling the site compete.com is only used by a very few buyers.

Thanks for the clarification on that. It's helpful to know especially considering March showed another crazy deviation from AWStats and GA.

Cheers
