how does Google Analytics hand tinyurl and bit.ly

if someone uses these url shorteners on twitter to point people to my site, is Google analytics counting this for me as referring traffic from twitter? Or maybe just as direct traffic? Any thoughts?

I'd think it's counted as direct traffic. I have used both my website's real url and tinyurl in twitter, in GA, I only see the real url as referral traffic.
