PPC Revenue without log files

Tracking revenue with code

Hello:
A quick question to the pros.

One of my clients in Asia wants to gather and analyze their revenue
from Yahoo, Google and other PPC Campaigns, however, their HeadQuarters
and server is in Europe and they don't have access to Log files.
At the moment, I am considering GoogleAnalytics (Urchin) as we will be
allowed to add code on their pages.

I haven't used before any analysis service or software without log
files or by only inserting codes into the pages and have a feeling that
it won't be that easy. The client has thousands of products, each with
a different price...

My questions are:
Will we be available to track total revenue from the different PPC
campaigns as well as by keywords by using Google Analytics?
Is there a different service that could provide us with Revenue from
the campaigns and keywords although we can not access log files?
Could some one introduce me to what they are using in these cases and
let me know your experiences with clients who don't have access to log
files?

Thank you!
Ryu

Hi and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com].

Firstly - have a loo k a t all the "tagging based" systems listed at [webmasterworld.com...]

Looking at you questions, I'll leave others to answer the Urchin stuff as I don't use it, but certainly there are many tagging based systems that will allow you to track sales (and sales volumes) from multiple PPC platforms.

Integration is usually easier than you imagine. Large sites are usually dynaic anyway, so you simply insert the same piece of code in a "common" part of the page and a slighly different piece of code on the checkout confirmation page.

Live Cost analysis is not so common - that is - where the actual amount you spend on the PPC click is recorded in the system and this is then used in ROI and other analytical systems. I know two systems at least that do this, but setting this up is a bit fiddly.

You also asked "Is there a different service that could provide us with Revenue from the campaigns and keywords although we can not access log files?" and the asnwer is again yes - both Google and Yahoo/Overture offer conversion tracking within their systems. These simply require code on the checkout confirmation page and nowehere else, but then you have two separate reporting systems and - of course - you are trusting the data from the very person you are trying to validate.
