GA - Tracking URL

Maintaining the query string?

So I am using a tracking URL to track campaigns in google analytics and I see the query string appear on the landing page, but when I move to subsequent pages it disappears. It apparently works because I can see e-commerce data, but does anyone know how it works?

Or should I be maintaining the query string throughout a person's navigation of my site?

In other words what's the difference in how analytics tracks a visitor who A) comes to my landing page, visits other pages on my site, and subsequently makes a purchase and B) comes to my landing page, leaves my site, and then comes back and makes a purchase.

Thanks!

I think on example "A" GA should attribute the initial query term to the activity but on example "B" it will attribute the activity to a type-in - not the originating query.

GA, as far as I am aware, does not give attribution beyond last click.
