Google Analytics traffic way off compared to AWSTATS

Why is google analytics showing much less traffic than there actually is?

Over the past 3 days google analytics is showing visits being down about 54% from previous levels, while AWSTAS is showing an increase in number of visits of 18% for same 3 days.

Sept. 14th = AWSTAS - 891 visits, Google Analytics - 270
Sept. 15th = AWSTATS - 889 visits, Google Analytics - 250
Sept. 16th = AWSTATS - 926 visits, Google Analytics - 303

overall 70% discrepancy between the numbers above, compared to previous variance of 22% as shown below.

Sept. 11th = AWSTAS - 797 visits, Google Analytics - 615
Sept. 12th = AWSTATS - 708 visits, Google Analytics - 539
Sept. 13th = AWSTATS - 725 visits, Google Analytics - 600

We added some new templates to some of the pages, and some of the pages became larger in file size, over 200k. We are fixing those to display as multiple pages. Wondering if google doesn't record pages after certain size?

That wouldn't explain the numbers on a smaller niche site where we only have google analytics. This site has also seen a similar dramatic drop in G analytics numbers, while the sales indicate google is obviously in error. Showed only 2 visits yesterday compared to usual 30 - 50, with 4 sales, so know we had more than what google shows.

Any thoughts on what might explain the drop in numbers from google?

We found out what was causing the discrepancy. We had changed over a large number of the pages on the site to a new template and missed placing the google analytics code on those pages.

Not a google issue.
