I am very new to the world of web building and SEO, so please bear with me if the questions don't sound too bright.
Having just submitted my site to Google, please advise the following:
1) do I know if googlebot has begun to crawl my site?
2) what is the date/time of the latest crawl?
3) have my pages been indexed by Google?
I know I am suppose to get the answers to the above from the Google Webmaster Tool, but what specifically to look for there in answering the above questions?
Thanks

If you have access to your server logs that is where you will find answers to 1 and 2 and 3. Very informative!

Server logs...you mean at my hosting server (cpanel) and not at Google Webmaster Tool?

Have you got Webmaster tools?

I do mean your server logs. Don't know cpanel, but if you can get your logs you'll see when g starts, what they crawl, and the times for each. This is best answer since it will be your system making the report, not google.

Can you provide more info. please, like where I can find this server log and how to install in my system.
i am a senior citizen, self taught (mostly thro' reading and forum participation), so some stuff do pose a challenge. plse bear with me.

I don't use cpanel, so cannot tell you where it is, however, there should be an option to log visitors to your site and an ability to either read or download them. Do a search of webmasterworld for

logfile cpanel

One thread to read is
[webmasterworld.com...]

Hope that helps.

Try using Google Webmaster Tools.
