Google Analytics Problem

Not showing traffic via bit.ly

Hello Everyone,

I am using bit.ly to shorten the URLs and place them on Twitter. The problem is that the service is showing 9 clicks but no referral traffic from Twitter is visible in Google Analytics. Is the traffic being counted in Direct Traffic section?

I had a similar issue with one of my analytic tools. Twitter did suddenly start appearing as a referer, but not straight away. Whether it makes sense or not, this almost indicated that a referrer would be classed as "Typed/Bookmarked/Direct" unless it hit a certain level of visits.

The other thing to consider, if I'm correct, is that using Tiny URL services means the visit is not actually going from Twitter > Your site. It's actually going Twitter > Tiny URL Conversion > Your site. If this is the case, I'm not sure if a referrer would be recorded.

These are just thoughts I'm having for a similar issue, so feel free to disagree.
