Sites like quantcast, Alexa, etc. where do they get your website statistics and demographics?

It's not a simple answer that can be summarized. They're using a lot of sources in complicated ways; this is definitely not a couple guys in a bedroom office! :). Have you read the information that's already on their sites? Quantcast has a long pdf about it and some other stuff.

I just skimmed through quantcast's methodology. I find it difficult to believe with my pathetic ad revenue earnings that my site ranks around 73,000. It's very interesting. Not nearly so high (low?) a ranking on Alexis.
