Has anyone else had problems printing (or even viewing) the Yahoo Web Analytics Migration Guide 2009 .doc file that Yahoo WA suggests reading for the migration steps this month? I think the tables are formatting in an odd way that interferes with pagination, and Word seems to choke on it.
I'm using MS Word 2003, but up till now I've never had a compatibility problem. Even setting preferences to resize to fit page doesn't work... Wasted a lot of paper and locked up my system 3 or 4 times.
I may have other questions on the migration later, but I'm curious about this key step. Trival problem and all that, but for want of a nail, etc etc....
It turns out that the re-pagination issue is independent of the Word version, but the cure is different in different versions.
As Word was caught in an infinite re-pagination loop which caused my system to lock up, an error message appeared and I remembered just enough of it to now find it via search. Here's the Microsoft Knowledge Base article....
Error message when you try to stop repagination in Word: "Word must complete pagination before displaying the selected text in Print Layout View"

It turned out that I remembered correctly enough, and in Word 2003 I would need to "edit the table structure so that there are no longer any nested tables." I didn't want to even begin to go there, as I think you can understand. Change tracking is also part of the problem, or perhaps the core. In any event, I don't want to get into editing your document.
I have sent you a suggestion that the documentation be made available as a pdf file, as your other documentation is. I also suggested that Yahoo should try printing it before releasing it... and I sent you info on getting a copy to me.
What I don't know, though, is whether problems with an underlying Word file will cause a pdf not to print. It occurs that they may make it difficult for you to convert the Word to pdf... which is perhaps why this file isn't a pdf. ;)
I should also mention, while I have your attention, that I can't find in your documentation (or on the control panel) any way to permit access to the Analytics account for multiple users (ie, multiple Yahoo IDs).
Thanks again for taking time out from what must be a very busy time right now to attend to this.
Completely fair points - we used Word as the format for various speed reasons and it is probably an old habit which we are trying to break (only PDFs on the new interface).
I will look into getting a printable PDF up (though the legacy system is only available until the 16th).
Regarding access to the analytics account - if you have a partner account, you can migrate or "bind" your IndexTools username and password to a Yahoo! ID. You cannot link more than one Yahoo! ID to the legacy username, but to give access to other users, simply invite them via Settings / Partner User Management / Manage users.
If you have a direct account, you can bind each existing user in your account to a Yahoo! ID and then invite new users via Settings / Users & roles / Create and modify users and set their access rights.
I hope this helps, and I look forward to your email.
