Using Analytics to Measure SEO

Need some advice

Hi,

I have a client who wants to be able to show the CEO that SEO efforts have been paying off. We have made major changes to several pages, and are tracking some key keywords for each page. So, the SEO software is proving that we are ranking higher for these keywords. But what is a basic way to get google analytics to work to show that traffic rises in response to ranking higher on these keywords?

There are many software to solve this like Webtrend.

You would need to benchmark the traffic from those keywords before your SEO initiaves and then measure the traffic for those keywords after to see what the % gain was in traffic or other conversion metrics.

Also, GA now has a ranking report that shows you how much traffic you get from a specific keyword and what ranking position that keyword was in when it was clicked. Omniture also has this functionality.

Ideally, you'd want to setup a separate profile with a filter to include only organic search traffic.

Lance, what do you mean by "SEO Software"? What do you want it to do?

I don't think WebTrends is what you are after, at any rate.
