I recently set up a Google Analytics account for my local website. I had already been running Metatraffic. The difference in the logged visits is substantially higher in the Metatraffic tracking software. Is the Metatraffic possibly counting spiders?

it could be. It could also be counting other things wrong, I am not really sure.
I would suggest looking through your logs to see what the differences are.

Well, I checked my logs and found the culprit. I did not have a robots.txt file, and when search engines would look for it, instead of getting a 404 page, they are re-directed to my default page. This was also happening because I did not have a favicon.ico file.
Added the two files and the numbers are getting closer. Unfortunately, I am not getting the traffic I thought I was :-(
