I am a newbie! Just wanted to know about Regional Tracking. I have noticed that most of my visitors are from California. I don't know why this is the trend. I don't have anything against CA but I am wondering how all my traffic seems to be originating from this one state. How can I get visitors from all parts of the US not just one certain region? BTW, I live in NC!

Hi there True. If you are using a log tracking system, it is highly plausible that the system is using IP numbers to guess the location of the user. This is pretty unreliable, since it may well be that the site is being called and cached by the location of the ISP's servers, not the user.

I first saw this in 1997 when an alarming percentage of visitors on Webtrends were coming from Western Virginia to a major news portal. Turned out to be AOL's servers.

I have not relied on logfiles ever since, but presumably 10 years on, they are a bit better...
