Google Analytics and Overture

Is there an easy way of tracking Overture referrals?

I'm starting to get some meaningful data out of Google Analytics and I have to say that I'm quite impressed.

I've managed to link my Adwords account to give me CPC data etc... in my reports, but I can't figure out an easy way of linking Overture. Does anyone know if there is an easy way of adding a referral code to my Overture links without editing each individually? (would take hours as I am bidding on several hundred keywords.

mistah (and everyone else!),

If you haven't already, go to the Overture/Yahoo DTC and over on the "Account Setup" tab ensure that "Easy Track" is "On".

Even if you are not doing any type of analytics on your inbound links, you really want this data, so you can track the performance of your ad campaigns. At Google and other PPC sites, be sure to add unique query fields to identify your ads and keywords otherwise you'll have a difficult time figuring out which ads are performing.

Glad to help,

Larry

Thanks larryn, I'd never noticed that option before.

I selected "Track your results with Tracking URLs." From reading the Overture help section, these appear to do what I need:

"What are Overture Tracking URLs?

Overture Tracking URLs are designed to provide more detailed information to advertisers who analyze their Web server logs. By clicking the "On” button, your existing URLs will be appended with information that will allow you to determine traffic by keyword, match type and raw search query. "

Now I'll just have to wait and see what Google Analytics makes of the Overture data.

bateman & mistah,

Sounds like the option name changed depending upon which version of the Yahoo/Overture portal you might be using. Mine is "Easy", but it used to be like you see on yours. Either way selecting yes will add three query parameters to the referring URL:

OVRAW - the raw query that was matched
OVKEY - the keywords you purchased on
OVMTC - the match type

Good luck!
