If your IP address changes, or if you want to exclude the stats of other staff looking at the site, then set up a private (password-protected) page that sets a "staff" cookie. Ask that everyone always starts browsing the site from that page. Set up a filter to exclude all visits made by people with that cookie.
In the early days of a small site, I find that on some days, more than half of the visits are made by "staff".
I run at least two profiles in Analytics: certainly "public, excluding staff" and "everyone" but I also set up filters for "the real domain" and "views elsewhere". The "views elsewhere" option catches people that are viewing the pages via a search engine cache but it also shows an easy way to find anyone looking at pages that have been scraped and then hosted elsewhere too.
So my profile list is usually something like this:
- public, non-staff, on the real domain only,
- all views, everywhere, by everyone (no filters),
- public, non-staff, on all domains other than the real site,
- staff views, on all domains,
- public, non-staff, on all domains.
If my static address is 202.154.159.185 why do I have to enter 202\.154\.159\.185 ?
Is there are \ at the end or not ?
Why not a simple 202.154.159.185 ?
If entering the filter is to hard it is too easy to type in wrongly and therefore the filter is not working as you wish.
