Google Urchin versus Analytics

Why is urchin commercial so poor?

I've been wanting to use Google Analytics for logging usage on out corporate Intranet. However as most of our users only use [intranet...] rather than a Fully Qualified Domain Name GA does not record the info!

However I saw I could buy Google Urchin for about £1500 and run it internally. So I installed the 30 day demo and I'm not impressed at all. Compared to GA Google Urchin is very poor and I have to pay for it!

Apart from making all [intranet...] request then go to a FQDN is there a way of making GA work with our intranet?

I have used urchin from version 2 which was basic at the time but was still better than other reporting software that was available in 2000 - 2001 and I still run urchin 5 only because when google first purchased the urchin company they was not going to carry on with the sale of upgrades or new versions of the software, as it happens they must of had a change of mind ;)

fast forward a few years and urchin has been changed to what is available today which is still a very good product compared to what else is on the market for the same money, according to the urchin 6 spec there are 2 things not included with urchin 6 what is avaiable with Google Analytics and thats "tightly integrated with AdWords" and "can collect information through tags" oh and its "not free" other than that there are more features with urchin 6 than Google Analytics

It doesn't track anything?

What does Google Analytics say, does it record the page as being tracked, or cant it find it at all?

Maybe you could post the _utm.gif and its parameters in here? (download firebug for firefox, click "net", find _utm.gif and choose parameters)
