I need some data about the veiwing habits of users of a certain type of niche website to help with making useful analysis of our own google data.

Where do you go for that sort of thing?

youll be lucky to find that anywhere.... especially with any webmaster who values their data...

you can look at the Google Analytics Benchmarking, but im not sure how accurate that is.

and what are you referring to when you say viewing habits?
thats pretty broad...

That's expensive information, closely held and sold by outfits such as Nielsen, Comscore, Dynamic Logic, maybe Hitwise. They, in turn, invest a ton of money in getting, cleaning, and normalizing that data, plus the overhead of selling it. Meanwhile, webmasters of those niches won't be giving data away because in the hands of their competitors it could hurt their chances of getting advertisers.

I'm not trying to be discouraging, but although we tend to expect everything to be free these days, a lot of this stuff isn't free. The info that is free tends to be pure junk. Your best option would be to find some of those niche users and just talk to them.

If this sounds condescending, I'm really trying not to be!

try studying your own analytics data... thats what i currently do, and have done over the past few years.

there is a lot there obviously, and you cant look at all of it at once and figure out whats happening.

take small sections and study them.

take a certain page. look at the bounce rate, look at the exit rate %, look at the navigation after they land on that page....

see where they go.

should they be spending over 1 minute on that page, or just a few seconds to go somewhere else.

it will help you better understand your site, versus someone elses site ...
