Tracking exit links clicks accurately

Can't get Google and statcounter to agree

I am trying to track which external links people click on to leave my site. I have Statcounter and Google analytics runnings. For some exit links Statcounter says that, say, 100 people have exited through that link in a month, whereas Google will say it's 10 people.

Does anyone know what might be going in? Is there a proven way to accurately track exit link clicks? I would have thought that it would be one of the easier stats to track but apparently not...

do you have the outbound link google tracking in the <a href...>?

statcounter may be counting crawlers, or spiders that are following that link... google does not track those. google only tracks actual users that trigger the JS. (im pretty sure)

Probably the most accurate way would be for you to create a redirect page that accepts a URL parameter and then record the click to a database before doing a redirect.
