When I was looking at the analytics for my band's website I can across one visiter from this url:
w*******.***.net

This is the only time I've ever seen a url blocked out like this. Any ideas on what the url is?

Or is there like a master list of all .net sites floating around out there?

you need to look up via one of the internet registries what site it is.
e.g. networksolutions
then whois search
type in IP

it will show you or tell you to look up on ripe, apnic, etc.

What they're doing is primitive, but easy to do. You'll never track it down. Don't worry about it. If you want to know places that have links to your site, then do link:www.yoursite.com on all of the search engines.
