Odd log activity - unnecessary bandwith consumption?

New to serious web hosting, bandwidth exhausted

I'm rather new to all this serious web hosting business, so I'd be glad of your help.

I recently set up a small site - about 10MB in total size, with say 15-20 pages. The hosting package has 2GB bandwidth a month, which I'd have thought would be adequate.

With two or three months, I upgraded the hosting to 5GB since the bandwidth was being all used up. Now on the new package 1.2GB has been already used in 5 days. Seems rather high - and business from it hasn't really increased accordingly.

So I looked through the traffic logs today. Seems to conform my suspicions - even though I don't really understand how to interpret them, many, probably most of the log entries involve a pornographic web address. Hmmm...

Can anyone explain a) what these sites are doing with my hosting, and b) what to do about it? As far as I can see, this upgraded package is a waste of money if it's just being used in some way by these pornographic sites!

Thanks in advance for your time and comments.

This is probably related to the recent increase in referrer log spam.
Here are a few discussions:

You could try a search on "referrer log spam" for some ideas on what to do.
